the feeling isn’t real
you don’t understand, just don’t
when all is collected,
or seemingly so,
you think you can feel
but you don’t

I wasn’t quite like them
grabbing and holding
I did things more passive
they gloated and bragged
but I wasn’t quite like them
I had my own ways to live
they knew something was up
because of my words
and then I knew,
I wasn’t quite like them
you see the truth is,
I wanted to like them
and they just wanted me gone.

I sit on your shelf, untouched
I gathered dust over the years
you bought me to keep me
but now, we don’t speak
you’ve moved on, you don’t need me
my eyes have glazed,
they’re plastic and still
my soft little arms, they hold no sign

The secrets we keep
the untold lies that live true
you know what I mean,
those
things we hold onto,
despite what they make us think
or how our peers will see us
if they only they knew
we have living inside us
a lie gone astray,
a burning sensation
a deadly part of ourselves.

I saw her, but then I saw him
I kissed her, but he was her backdrop
she loved me, but he was my heart
my best friend I knew him, but she was my love
her eyes were like ponds, his of great seas
her face, immaculate...and his captivating
I gave her my all, fake is the truth
as I held her hand, my mind went racing

like a leech, following trends
it must suck to be you
so concerned with what they say
it must suck to be you
thinking I care about this
it must suck to be you,
but it’s great to just be me.
